Wallace Wayne Downen

Mr. Downen passed away Sunday morning at Pine Meadows Healthcare Center in Bolivar.



The husband of Cynthia Fisher Downen, who survives, he was retired as a security guard with Gulf Coast Industrial Guard Service in Houston, Texas, was an area supervisor and supervisor at Amoco Oil Co. in Texas City, Texas and had also worked for Guardmark Company in Memphis, Murray Guard Company in Jackson and Cherokee Landing in Saulsbury. He was born June 15, 1923, in Saulsbury, son of the late Robert Estes Downen and Velma Williams Downen and lived in Texas for 10 years prior to moving to Middleton in 1988. He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Campaign and went into battle on D-Day, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton. He was a life member of VFW Post 6378 in Paris, Tennessee and a member of the Pocahontas Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.



In addition to his wife, whom he married on October 10, 1973, survivors include two daughters and their spouses, Sadie Mae Downen (Jonathan Hayes) of Atlanta, Ga. and Lisa Tubbs (Thomas) of Memphis; seven sons and their spouses, Larry Downen (Doris) of Myrtle, Miss., Harry Downen (Vickie) of Memphis, Carter Downen (Kathy) of Arlington, William Downen (Toni) of Memphis, Ron Downen (Belinda) of Drummonds, Mike Downen (Tina) of League City, Tex., and Glen Fisher of Danberry, Tex.; one sister and her husband, Jerrette Tranium (Jimmy) of Middleton; four brothers and their spouses, Joseph Downen (Sadie) of Bolivar, Robert Downen of Rossville, Doug Downen of Yakamau, Wash. and Leon Downen (Ann) of Middleton; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Akers; two sisters, Earline Smith and Elda Frances Pope and a brother, William P. Downen.
