Wallace Guymon Young

Wallace Guymon Young was born July 8th, 1940 in Hardin County, TN to the late LV and Juanita Crotts Young. He was the oldest of twelve children. In June 1984, he was united in marriage to Betty Pilkington, who preceded him in death on August 29, 2025. Wallace departed this life on August 22, 2026 at the age of 86 years, 1 month, and 14 days.

In his early years, he farmed with his father and brothers. Then, went on to serve his country in the Navy for 2 years. After returning from the Navy, he attended welding school where he would learn an invaluable trade and became known as one of the best welders around. He held jobs at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS and Velsicol Chemical plant in Memphis, TN. He went on to work for Firestone Tire & Rubber plant in Memphis for a number of years prior to working for the Shelby County Government for many years prior to his retirement.

Wallace was a hard-working, honest man who loved the simple things in life. He was a humble man who did not complain. Due to his kind, but witty nature, he made many friends on his journey through life. He also enjoyed having animals, listening to gospel music, and taking road trips, especially around Hardin County and along the TN River.

Wallace loved the Lord and loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandsons & grandchildren. He will forever hold a special place in all our hearts.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alton Young, Danny Young, and a sister, Shirley Ables.

He is survived by his daughter, Pam Seaton (Derick); grandsons, Corey Seaton (Melissa), Ryan Seaton, and Tyler Seaton (Cassie); great-grandchildren, Maverick Seaton, Wrenley Seaton, Barrett Seaton, and Rhodes Seaton; siblings, Marilyn Sue Hill, Rabon Young, Billy Young, Carolyn Holcombe, Doug Young, Neva Ireland, Bruce Young, and Charlotte Nance. Plus, a host of nieces and nephews. Additionally, he leaves behind three step-children, Kim Sutphin (David), Michael Pilkington (Shelly), Edward Pilkington and numerous step grandchildren.
