Wallis D. Grimes

October 29, 1923 — May 4, 2017

Mr. Grimes passed away Thursday afternoon at his home near Grand Junction.

A native of Moundville, AL, the son of the late Melvin and Lomie Griffin Grimes. He moved to Osceola, AR as a young man where he lived several years. He had also lived in Memphis and Bristol, TN. Prior to moving to Hardeman County approximately 12 years ago, he had lived 10 years in Selmer and then in Pickwick 6-7 years. He was the widower of Norma Maxine Carson Grimes who passed from this life in April, 1967.

Mr. Grimes served his county in the US Army during World War II, first in the Infantry in Germany, where he was taken prisoner in January, 1945. He served a second tour of duty with the occupational forces in Korea as a medic prior to the outbreak of the war there.

He worked over 30 years as a skilled tradesman with International Harvester in Memphis, where he retired. In his leisure time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and was an avid outdoors man.

He is survived by two sons, David Randall Grimes and Douglas W. Grimes, both of Grand Junction; five brothers and sisters, Grady Grimes of Selmer, Bertha Gervin of Knoxville, Alyce Hickerson of Cincinnati, OH, Gurtus and Johnny Grimes, both of Knoxville.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Lovelady; and his parents.
