Walter L. Pruitt

December 23, 1932 — March 18, 2021

Walter Lee Pruitt was born in Memphis, Tennessee, December 23, 1932.

His family moved to Bolivar when he was 10 years old. He attended Central High School and had very fond memories of his time there, especially his involvement in athletics and playing in the band. He married Carmen Baird, also from Bolivar, while he was attending Memphis State University. He served in the United States Army where he was an interpreter in the Korean War.

Walter lived in Middle Tennessee, Maryland and Georgia working in manufacturing management. He had many interests including flying, sailing, tennis and music. He loved his family and his church. He married Suzanne Straight of Elmira, New York following Carmen’s death and they lived happily in Woodstock Georgia for 21 years.

Walter is preceded in death by wife, Carmen Baird Pruitt, his parents, Renfro Fortune Pruitt and Elsie Faye Kirksey Pruitt, a son, Harold Ren Pruitt, sister, Bettye Jo Pruitt Chumney and brother, Jimmy Pruitt.

He is survived by wife, Suzanne Straight Pruitt, daughters, Christye Mahan and Shannon Pruitt Curley (John Curley), grandchildren, Kyle Bowen, Bonnie Jones, Buck Curley and Peyton Curley. Great grandchildren, Maggie and Luke Bowen and Robbie Zignego and great, great grandchildren, Noah and Sadie Bowen.

A memorial graveside service will be held at Union Cemetery in Bolivar on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marietta Alliance Church .
