Walter (Robbie) J. Robbins, CMSGT Ret USAF, departed this earth on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at his residence in Selmer, TN. He will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.
He was born on October 30, 1936 in Troy, OH to the late Walter Jones Robbins and J. Odessa Mumah Robbins.
Robbie joined the USMC at the age of 18 serving 8 years before joining the USAF serving 22 years. During his military career he did two tours in the Vietnam War, he retired in 1985. When asked why he left the Marine Corp he would say, "if the Marines wanted you to have a wife and children, they would have issued them!" He was sworn into the USAF wearing his USMC uniform, the same day his tour was up with the Marine Corp.
After retiring from the military, he started a new adventure in law enforcement working for LA State Prison system and then the Alexandria LA police department where he worked as a jailer until retirement in 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Schaffner Robbins; daughters, Michelle Stroud of Pineville, LA, Carolyn Cook Feller and husband Scott of Waukesha, WI; son, Michael Robbins and wife Linda of Donnelly, ID; stepson, Chris Evans and wife Andra of Mansfield, TX; grandchildren, Denise Stroud, Linda Cook, Jacob Stroud and wife Erin, Brandi, Robert, and Alexander Robbins, Tyler Evans; great grandchildren, Addison Jeansonne and Willow Stroud; grandson in training, Cory Jeansonne; special friends, William, Vicki and Denise Moore; cousin, Sandra Mumah; host of extended family and special friends.
In addition to his parents, Robbie was preceded by brother, Paul Robbins; infant son, David Wayne Robbins; first wife, Joyce Lidzus Robbins.
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 1:00 PM at the Corinth National Cemetery in Corinth, Mississippi with full military honors.
