Walter Brown Smith

May 4, 1925 — February 16, 2015

Mr. Walter Brown (W. B.) Smith, 89 of Clifton, TN passed away peacefully on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee. He was born May 4, 1925 in Clifton, TN the son of the late Alfred Farris and Rixie Mae Gorden Smith. He married Martha Jane Epley on September 18, 1944 who preceded him in death on May 15, 2014.

Walter Brown (W.B.) Smith was a life time resident of Clifton,, TN. He served his country in the US Army from 1944 to 1946. As a Veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and WW II Victory Medials. After his military service he worked as a farmer and long time owner and operator of Smith's Grocery Store in Clifton. He later retired from Genesco in Waynesboro, TN.

He is survived by daughters, Pamela Bridges and Phyllis Downey both of Clifton, TN; grandsons, Patrick Blackburn of Clifton, TN and Jason Blackburn of New Albany, MS; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Smith of Clifton, TN, Carl Smith of Savannah, TN, Claude Smith of Romeoville, IL, Faye Smith of Braidwood, IL, and Bill Smith of Clifton, TN; sister, Edith Franks of Manchester, TN; several neices and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Walter David Smith and brothers, Bobby Gene Smith and Glen Smith.

Services will be Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Riverside United Methodist Church in Clifton, Tennessee, with Josh Layne officiating. Military rites will be given and burial will follow in the church cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Patrick Blackburn, Jason Blackburn, Cameron Blackburn, Walter Smith, Elijah Smith and Coty Smith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm and Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 8 am to service time at Riverside United Methodist Church, Clifton, TN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Butterfly Foundation at P.O. Box 212, Waynesboro, TN, 38485.
