Mrs. Wanda Clyde Hill Bartlett, age 86 of Bolivar, Tennessee, passed from this life Wednesday night, March 23, 2016.
Mrs. Bartlett was born Friday, February 7, 1930 to the late Clyde and Lois Hill in Falkner, Mississippi. She graduated from Falkner High School in 1947 as an honor student and basketball player. She won 1st Place in State at a 4H competition for her demonstration in the preparation of dairy products and their health benefits. She was also crowned Miss Falkner in 1947.
She attended Northwest Junior College, received her Business degree from Blue Mountain College, and graduated with her B.A. in Education from Lambuth University. She taught secondary school in Tennessee and Mississippi for thirty years, but prior to that, she worked as a secretary for the superintendent at Western Mental Health Institute, and a bookkeeper for a local store. She also owned and operated 3-B Nursery & Landscaping with her husband.
She accepted the Lord at age 12, and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar. She served as a Preschool teacher & coordinator for 31 years there, volunteered with the Senior Adult Meal Delivery ministry, and sang with the Golden Sounds Choir. She was a Girl Scout leader, and volunteered at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center until her health made it impossible to continue. She loved music, especially southern gospel, and gardening, and was an avid reader. Most of all, she loved her family.
On July 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Mr. G. C. Bartlett, who preceded her in death September 28, 2002. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Lynn Bartlett, as well as a stillborn child.
Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Sells and husband Carroll, and Cindy Henderson and husband Michael; sister, Sarah McGar; grandchildren, Lauren Henderson Massey and husband Nick, Dylan Henderson, and Connor Sells; and two great-grandchildren, Julia and Colton Massey.
Donations made in Mrs. Bartlett's memory may be sent to the Golden Sounds Choir or the Children's Ministry at First Baptist Church in Bolivar.
