Henderson, TN: Wendell Lynn Cox, age 59 passed away Thursday, September 29 at his home in Henderson.
He was born February 22, 1963 in Henderson son of the late Pete and Leah McAfee Cox. He grew up in Henderson and was a 1981 graduate of CCHS. He was also a graduate of The National Hardwood Lumber Association. He earned a BS degree in Business from East Tennessee State University in 1987. He later earned a Welding Certificate from The State Technical Institute in Whiteville, TN. Among his many accomplishments he also ran a 5K race in Atlanta in 1986 which was the culmination of much intensive training and recovery from a serious physical illness.
He worked in his family’s business A.M. Cox and Son’s Sawmill until its closing in 2005. He also worked as an electrician having worked for Hornsby Electric for the last 15 years.
Wendell married Janet Bingham in 1988 and they raised two sons together.
He later married Wendy Hunt on September 1, 2017 after a three year courtship.
Wendell enjoyed life and was always smiling and kept a positive attitude. He greatly enjoyed reading, motorcycles, walking and his dogs.
He had a strong sense of family and absolutely loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Wendy Cox of Henderson; two sons Clinton Walter Cox of Henderson and Kenton Joe Cox of Erin, TN; stepsons Hunter Faulker (Becca), Payton Faulkner (Amber), Dylan White (Maley) and Tanner White all of Henderson; a stepdaughter Bliss Jones of Iuka, MS; 15 grandchildren Dallas, Adrianna, Gracilyn, Timothy, Lane, Brycen, Lila, Waylon, Tyler, Sadie, Karleigh, Lexi, Jaxon, Olivia and Austin; a brother Wade Carson Cox of Henderson; two sisters Norma Jean Meissner of Henderson and Linda Kay Hodgkiss of Eads, TN.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson - East Main Chapel with Ken Frye and Wade Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at East Main Chapel from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday.
