Henderson, TN: Wendell Austin Dye age 82, passed away July 11, 2023, at his home.
He was born July 24, 1940 in Anawalt, West Virginia the son of the late John D. and Tobitha Elizabeth Parks Dye. He grew up in Anawalt and joined the U.S. Army in 1957. He was a paratrooper and served six years.
After his time in the military, he moved to Bethel Springs, and worked at a sawmill. He then began working at Kilgore at Toone in maintenance. He than worked at Triple A Plumbing and Electric in Jackson before working for SM Lawrence retiring in 2007.
He married Zelda Faye Roland on July 12, 1975, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2014.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Washington, DC.
He enjoyed gardening, riding horses, hunting, raising chickens and turkeys. He was a hobby welder and loved building projects-his log home was his greatest project.
He loved being a grandfather, “Papa” to them.
Mr. Dye is survived by two daughters, Crystal Brewer (John) of Henderson and Rosa Lee Bastoe of West Monroe, LA; five grandchildren, Danielle Brewer, Carlie Brewer, Christina Bastoe, Michael Dye (Alissa) and Jon Roland and a great grandchild, Aurora Dye; two brothers, Dale Dye (Pat) of Berlin, WI and Randy Dye of Bluefield, WV, and a nephew, Darrel Roland (Katrina) whom he raised as a son of Gleason, TN and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Zelda Faye Roland, a son, David Dye, five brothers, and six sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 14th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Mark Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday.
