Wilburn Okolona Michael, age 87, departed this life on January 7, 2017 in Madison, TN at the age of 87 Years, 4 Months, 1 Day, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Michael was born September 6, 1929 in McNairy County, TN, the son of late William Cubie Michael (died 1958) and Algie Reda Channell Michael (died 1985). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alta Victoria Jaggars, in June 2015.
He is survived by three sisters and a brother: Olgie Dorthene Brown, husband James Brown, Selmer, TN; Alton Dalton Michael, wife Doris Dickey Michael, Jackson, TN; Rebecca Athena Carman, husband John Carman (Died Sept 2002) Birmingham, AL; Almeda Harlene Hester, husband Gordon Goodlettsville, TN.
Mr. Michael, was residing at a nursing home in Hendersonville, TN. He was formerly of McNairy County, TN. He worked for the Brown Shoe Company in Selmer, TN. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 162. He received an Associate in Arts Diploma in 1956 from The Northeast Mississippi Junior College, Booneville, MS. He also earned a Bachelor of Science and Education Degree in 1958 from Bethel College, McKenzie, TN. Wilburn enjoyed hunting with his bird dogs, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a long-time fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals. His love for his many nieces, nephews, family and friends was great. His memories live on with these many loved ones.
