Finger, TN: Robert Wilburn Garner age 95, passed away January 15, 2011 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born and reared in McNairy County, Masseyville community, the son of the late Arlis David and Lettie Victoria Rankin Garner. He went to school at Kirby and Masseyville. He farmed as a young man and worked two years in the Civilian Conservation Corp. from 1937 until 1939. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941and served in the 41st Infantry Division, 116th engineer in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and served 33 months overseas and returned in 1945.
He was married to Lois Wamble in 1948. They made their home in the Old Friendship Community all their married life. Mr. Garner farmed and raised and sold vegetables, watermelons and cantaloupes. They were well known for watermelons and peas. He was avid quail hunter. He was a member of the Estes Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Wamble Garner of Finger; a son Guy Garner and wife Sherry of Pickwick Dam, TN and a daughter, Shelia Fesmire and husband Larry of Newbern, TN; three grandchildren, Casey Garner, Kevin Garner and Camille Fesmire Dozier and one great- grandson, Price Dozier; a sister, Ethel Hurst of Bethel Springs and a brother, Warren Garner of Finger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, T. J. Fesmire in 1999; three brothers, Haven Garner and Waldo Garner and Macy Garner.
