William David Baker

October 11, 1936 — June 15, 2014

Mr William David Baker, 77, of Bolivar departed this life Sunday morning, June 15, 2014 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The husband of Frances Maxwell Baker, who survives, he was the retired owner/operator of Baker Sawmill from 1973-2004. He also worked for Hooper Sawmill for a while after retiring. He was born in Hardeman County, on October 11, 1936, son of the late David Pickens Baker and Opal Vaughan Baker and lived all of his life here. He was a 1955 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and US Army veteran, serving from 1958-1961. Mr. Baker loved to fish, work in his garden and trap shoot. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, whom he married on March 23, 1966, survivors include a son, John Baker of Henderson; three sisters, Betty Webb of Texarkana, Texas, Helen Wilkes of Southaven, MS and Shirley Deming of Bolivar; two grandchildren, Sharon Nuckolls and Kim (Rita) Nuckolls, all of Bolivar; a great grandson, Blane Cossar of Bolivar; and his special cat, Little Rascal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Rose and a stepdaughter, Faye Nuckolls.

The family requests memorials be directed to Walnut Grove Baptist Church or Bolivar Church of Christ.

A reception will be held following the Memorial Service at the Bolivar Church of Christ in the fellowship hall.
