Mr. Downen passed away Monday afternoon at Pine Meadows Healthcare in Bolivar.
The husband of Gracie Downen, who survives, he was a foreman at Troxel Manufacturing for 20 years. Mr. Downen was born December 20, 1917 in Saulsbury to the late Robert Estes Downen and Velma Frances Williams Downen and lived most of his life in Hardeman County and 6 years in Illinois. He served his country for the Army, stationed in England with the 501st Airborne during World War II and was a member of Hickory Valley First Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, whom he married April 9, 1949, he is survived by two daughters, Frances Evelyn Pipkin of Pocahontas and Linda Kay Roberson of Walnut, MS; a son, Edward Lee Downen of Memphis; a half-sister, Jeriette Tranum of Middleton; two brothers, W.W. Downen of Bolivar and Douglas Downen of Yakima, WA; three half-brothers, Leon Downen of Middleton, Robert Downen of Collierville and Joe Downen of Bolivar; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one step great grandchild.
