William "Pay" Lackey departed this life on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the age of 84 years, 3 months, and 27 days. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on May 14, 1935, the son of the late Edward and Fannie Wolfe Lackey. On May 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to Betty Beckham, who survives.
William "Pay" had served in the U.S. Army for two years and the National Guard for four years. He had been employed with Brown Shoe Company, was a real estate investor for over 30 years, a judge for the City of Savannah for several years, and an insurance agent for a time. Pay was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ and Woodmen of the World. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves and he enjoyed collecting coins, Barr dollars, caps, knives, and old cars.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lackey of Savannah, Tennessee; son, William Joseph Lackey of Hendersonville, Tennessee; daughter, Laura Leigh Woodard and her husband Aaron of Nashville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Greyton Beckham Woodard and Benjamin August Woodard; brothers, Edwin Lackey of Arlington, Tennessee and Fred Lackey of Moscow, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, William Pay was preceded in death by his grandson, William Dansby Lackey, and sisters, Virginia Dean Read and Barbara Ann Kolwyck.
