WILLIAM “BILL” MANESS
Henderson, TN: William Leroy “Bill” Maness, age 85 passed away Monday morning, June 15, 2020 at the home of his son.
He was born May 1, 1935 and reared in Chester County, the Little Hatchie Community, the son of the late Jess Willard and Eula Virginia Crouse Maness. He attended schools at Hickory Corner. He farmed as a young man and moved to Oklahoma in 1957 and worked at Farmer’s Lumber Company for eleven years. While in Oklahoma he met and married Mary Swallow. They moved to Chester County and made their home in the Old Friendship – Hickory Corner Community since 1968. He worked at Wicks Lumber Company and then worked as an installer for Manddix, a shelving installation company.
He enjoyed raising quail and loved coon hunting, rabbit hunting, and deer hunting. He had earned many trophies at area coon hunts.
He was a member of the Estes Church of Christ.
Mr. Maness is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Swallow Maness of Henderson; a son, Billy Ray Maness of Henderson and a daughter, Donna Ann Lussier and husband Dan of Henderson; six grandchildren, Jonathan Lussier (Mandi), Christi Jensen (Shane), Dayna Patterson (Billy), Laura Beth Dendy (Cody), Mary Emilee Lussier and Rylee Maness; ten great grandchildren, Jackson and Maddie Lussier, Evan, Milly and Jase Jensen, Maggie Patterson, Tuff and Layla Faye Dendy and Tylon and Luke Maness and six brothers, David Maness of Jackson, Raywood Maness of Crump, Harrel Maness of Finger, Johnny Maness of Finger, Robert Maness of Wichita, KS and Danny Maness of Henderson; four sisters, Inetha Robison of Henderson, Shirley Swallow of Corinth, Susie Smith of Finger and Betty Graves of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Retta Maness (2013); a granddaughter, LeAnn Maness (2020) and a brother, Larry Maness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Allen Walker, Doug Burleson, Tony Hysmith, Billy Smith and Roy Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Cave Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday.
