William Conrad “Bill†Powers, 66, of Somerville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 23, 2011.
Bill was survived by his wife, Carolyn Powers, and was a life-long farmer. Mr. Powers was born June 11, 1944 to the late Earl H. and Icy Powers and lived all of his life in Fayette County. He was a member of Somerville First Baptist Church for 38 years where he served as a deacon, Sunday school director, teacher and on several committees. Mr. Powers was a coach for the Dixie Youth Baseball for 5 and 6 year olds, a member of the class of 1962 Fayette County High School, served as both a Gideon and Farm Bureau Board Member. He served in the National Guard for 6 years and raised Beagles and hosted Beagle trials. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, his family, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, whom he married July 25, 1966, he is survived by four daughters, Jennifer Sue “Susie†Walker (Bill) of Somerville, Elisha Puryear (Dean) of Lakeland, Audra Powers of Memphis and Rachel Powers of Nashville; a son, Conrad Powers (Dixie) of Somerville; four sisters, Sadie Davis, Peggy Cox, Inez Voyles (Mitchell), Valeria Bishop (W.D.), all of Somerville; a brother, Jimmy Powers (Judy) of Somerville; and seven grandchildren, William, Hanah and Matthew Walker, Trey, Davis and Hayden Powers and Grant Puryear. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl H. and Icy Powers; two sisters, Frankie Holden and Jewel Davis; and two brothers, Houston Powers and Earl Powers, Jr.
