Reagan, TN: William Wesley Swafford age 77 passed away February 26, 2019 at his home.
He was born in the Roby Community of Chester County January 23, 1942 to the late Willie James and Nina Sue McCormick Swafford. He attended schools at Roby and Southside High School in Jackson. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1964 and was a Vietnam War Veteran.
He was a welder by trade, last working at Thyssenkrupp at Middleton, TN retiring in 2012 after twenty + years. He married Ruth Ann Elway on January 11, 2000. They made their home at Reagan.
He loved horses, leather work, working on cars and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed reading Louis L’amour books. He was affectionally known as “Popa” by his grandchildren. He was very comical and loved to tell jokes.
Mr. Swafford is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Elway Swafford of Reagan; a son, Daniel Robin Elway (Amber) of Pittsburg, PA; five daughters, Pamala Marie McRee (David) of Munford, TN, Barbara Jean Stout (Timothy) of Henderson, Janie Christine Gilchrist (John Page) of Marion , AR, Amy Diane Connor (Shorty) of Henderson and Krista Lee Elway of Pittsburgh, PA; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters, Cathey Jane Brasher (Doyle) of Henderson and Mary Rosalee Swafford (Tena) of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Nickey Lynn Swafford, James Harold Swafford and Tommy Ray Swafford and a sister, Linda Sue Swafford.
There will be no services.
