William Joseph Vaughan

June 19, 1938 — June 23, 2013

Mr. Joseph Vaughan departed this life Sunday evening, June 23, 2013 at Behavioral Health Center in Martin, Tennessee.



A native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, Mr. Vaughan was the son of the late William Roy Vaughan and Mary Pulse Vaughan. He was a 1956 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and on August 2, 1963, he married the former Bertha Sipes. They would have been married 50 years this coming August.



Mr. Vaughan was the owner/operator of Bolivar Lumber Company and Vaughan Oil Company. He also was co-owner of Vaughan & Fawcett Construction. Among his other interests, he was active in farming, particularly working with his cattle. Mr. Vaughan was an active member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years, as well as Training Union Director, Bible School Teacher, member of the Building and Grounds Committee and the Cemetery Committee. A strong believer in his community, he was active with Hardeman County's "Hee-Haw" show and the American Cancer Society. He also supported Hardeman County Schools, especially in fund raising efforts through students.



In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Gregory R. Vaughan and his wife, Janna, of Bolivar and Jason Vaughan of Bolivar; two sisters, Sarah Gary of Jonesboro, AR and Brenda Jackson of Bolivar; a brother, Bobby Vaughan of Bolivar; and six grandchildren, Shannon, Jake, Josh, Taylor, Haley and Tanner Vaughan.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Vaughan.
