Obituary

Wonda Kay Carroll, age 88, of Selmer, Tennessee, passed peacefully from this life on June 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family she devoted her life to. Born on September 15, 1937, in Selmer, Tennessee, she was the beloved daughter of the late Vernon and Palace Smallwood Sanders.

On April 5, 1954, Wonda married the love of her life, Osco A. Carroll. Together they built a home centered on faith, family, and unconditional love, sharing nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on February 2, 2011.

Wonda faithfully served the children of McNairy County as a school bus driver, retiring after many years with the McNairy County School System. She also attended Forty Forks Baptist Church, where she found strength in her faith and enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.

While her work was important, Wonda's greatest calling was her family. She was the heart of her home and the matriarch of her family—a woman whose love was expressed through countless acts of care and devotion. She made it her mission to know where every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild was, making sure they were safe, cared for, and never left hungry. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and welcome, and her family always knew they could count on her steady love, wise guidance, and nurturing spirit. The legacy she leaves behind is one of selfless devotion, compassion, and unwavering love that will continue to live on through the generations she cherished so deeply.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Rex Carroll and wife, Pam, of Selmer, Tennessee, and Tracey Carroll and wife, Penny, of Selmer, Tennessee; a daughter, Mitsy Boyd and husband, George, of Selmer, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Blake Carroll and wife, Channing, Dustin Ruth and wife, Debbie, Derek Boyd and wife, Ashley, Brittany Kelley and husband, Jesse, Darby Gunn and husband, Chase, and Delana Lusk and husband, Ethan; and six beloved great-grandchildren, Greenlee Carroll, Sawyer Ruth, Drake Ruth, Palmer Carroll, Brooks Kelley, Emily Gunn, Evie Gunn, and Tucker Boyd. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember her kindness, generosity, and loving heart.

In addition to her husband and parents, Wonda was preceded in death by her sister, Vanilla Hill, and her brother-in-law, Bob Maxedon.

Though her family grieves her absence, they find comfort in knowing her love will remain a lasting presence in their lives. Wonda's gentle spirit, giving heart, and unwavering dedication to those she loved will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
