With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Zachary Alan Casteel, age 27, of Savannah, TN, who left this world far too soon on May 1, 2025. Born on April 23, 1998, Zach brought light, strength, and love into the lives of all who knew him.
Zach was a true outdoorsman at heart. He found joy and peace in nature—whether he was hunting, fishing, or walking the creeks searching for Indian artifacts. He also had a gift for cooking and loved trying new recipes to share with his family and friends. His loyal Labrador retriever, Mia, was never far from his side and remained one of his closest companions.
He was a skilled carpenter with a strong work ethic, and he also spent several years working on the towboat. Zach took pride in working with his hands and in building things that would last—both in wood and in the relationships he nurtured.
To know Zach was to know a man with a heart bigger than words can say. He loved deeply and unconditionally. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and his kindness and generosity touched everyone around him. He was a good man—genuine, loyal, and full of life.
More than anything, Zach loved his family. He is survived by his beloved dog Mia; his father, Paul Casteel (Samantha); his mother, Donna Beckham (Corey); his sisters, Sarah McLin (Devin) and Rosie Brown (Bailey); his step-sister, Tabitha Anderson; his nieces, Addilyn McLin, Paislee Qualls, and Lilly Qualls; and his nephews, Bryson Brown, Gunner Brown, Ty Grisham, Riley Grisham, and Brantley Goodman. He was the best uncle anyone could ask for—known for his big hugs, playful spirit, and unwavering love. His nieces and nephews were the light of his life, and he adored every moment spent with them.
Zach is also survived by his girlfriend, Alyssa Wilson, with whom he had recently shared a close and loving relationship. They brought joy into each other’s lives and shared hopes for the future.
He is also survived by many cherished cousins, including Wyatt Rich, Silas Cherry, Cierra Cherry, and Dana Cherry. He was preceded in death by his nephew James King, grandfather Doug Casteel, and grandparents Mazie and Vernon Hunt. His loving grandmother, Linda Casteel, survives him and was a guiding light in his life.
Zach was a strong Christian who loved the Lord with all his heart. He had a deep understanding of the Word of God and a passion for sharing it with others. It was his hope to inspire people to attend church and grow in their relationship with the Lord. His faith was his foundation, and his life was a reflection of God’s grace and love.
Zach’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He made this world a better place by simply being in it, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Zach by spending time outdoors, helping someone in need, or attending church in his memory.
