Our Facilities

R. P. and Kathryne Hall Shackelford left their home in Savannah in 1932, moving to Bolivar to open the second Shackelford funeral home, a monumental task since there were six other funeral establishments in the community. Two years later, the business moved from the south side of the square to the east side where it remained until 1964 when the current facility was opened. R. P.’s sudden death in 1977 led his son Don to assume the role of manager, one he occupied until his death in 2000. Today the business offers a full range of funeral and cremation options under the oversight of Don’s son Jeff.

How we began

Waco Memorial Park was founded in 1947 by men of outstanding vision whose purpose it was to create a nonsectarian cemetery, to be perpetuated as a memorial park. From the beginning, their ideas met the approval of families who saw Waco Memorial Park as a place where those who pass on may rest in an environment of dignity and peace.

What Differentiates Us

Waco Memorial Park is the only cemetery in the area that has perpetual care established under the State of Texas Department of Banking. In conformity with State Cemetery Laws, a percentage of each lot sale is deposited in an irrevocable trust fund which provides upkeep of each lot forever. Families will never be asked to pay any dues or assessments for upkeep.
